"Fatespeaker's 'visions'." Starflight tapped his claws thoughtfully. "Take this scroll and write down everything I say." He felt around the desk until his claws came in contact with paper, and slid it over to Mangrove, who lifted it off the desk. "Mangrove you've been learning how to write, haven't you." Starflight tilted his head towards where Mangrove was standing. "I.uh.couldn't sleep." Mangrove stammered. ![]() Even Glory was asleep at this time." The floorboards creaked as Mangrove shifted uncomfortably again. I mean, I know you can't yourself, but why me?" Mangrove's question held no anger, just quiet curiosity. "I just felt like Fatespeaker would start asking weird questions about why you are in my hut in the middle of the night. "But why did I have to hide?" Starflight winced. "Excuse me for asking," Mangrove said in a slow, polite voice. "You can come out now." Starflight heard the hidden dragon spread his wings and fly down from the rafters to brush wings with Starflight. Starflight waited until he couldn't hear her wingbeats anymore. Remember we have a meeting with Glo-, er, Queen Glory in the morning." Fatespeaker finally opened her wings and flapped away, leaving Starflight with the slightest impression that she wasn't telling him something. Go back to sleep and stop worrying." Fatespeaker paused in the doorway to the hut. "Alright then." Starflight nudged Fatespeaker towards the door. "Do you know who was dragging me through the forest." Fatespeaker hesistated for a moment before replying. It isn't the future, it's just Fatespeaker worrying about me. Stop that Starflight. He yelled at himself. "You were.being dragged through the a dragon, shaking with fear and yelling for your friends." Starflight tried to keep his face calm, but in reality, he was really freaked out. "Well, yes." Fatespeaker's voice was barely above a whisper now. "Anything else?" Fatespeaker took a deep, shuddering breath. "Fatespeaker." Starflight prompted her gently. It is all blurry!" Starflight's talons clenched and unclenched. "I don't know! That's the part that scares me! I have no idea what happens next. She is really worried about something. Starflight thought anxiously. Fatespeaker took a deep, shuddering breath. "What happens next?" Starflight tried to sound kind. ![]() Suddenly, Queen Glory is on fire! Fire, Starflight! Deathbringer leaps forward to help her, but suddenly vines from the trees come down, on their own, trapping him! Then, I am screaming, and so are you." Fatespeaker's voice got quieter and quieter as she told him the story. Suddenly, I hear a high-pitched scream and a cackle of laughter. You, me and Queen Glory are walking through the rainforest, talking. "Ok!" Fatespeaker sat down next to him, and Starflight put his wing over her back. "Describe it from the beginning." Starflight turned towards her voice and tried to put on a listening face. "I mean, sure." She said in a pretending-to-be-causal-but-actually-super-excited voice. "Really!" Fatespeaker let go of Starflight's talons and the floor shook as she jumped up and down. As much fun as she was, Fatespeaker could not be convinced her powers were false. "I know that's what Stonemover said, but maybe it doesn't apply to me!" Fatespeaker protested. "Fatespeaker!" Starflight couldn't help his voice being sharp. What if.what if it was the future, Starflight?" ![]() "It was just a dream." Starflight could almost feel Fatespeaker's dubious look. "Don't worry, Fatespeaker." Starflight tried to comfort her by leaning in closer. "It felt so.real Starflight, and I'm scared." "I had that nightmare again." Fatespeaker's voice had never sounded so wobbly or quiet. ![]() What is it?" Fatespeaker was quiet for a moment. "Fatespeaker." Starflight tried to smile in the direction of her voice. "Sorry to bother you this late." She trailed off. "Hi Starflight." Fatespeaker twined her tail around Starflight's placing her claw on top of his. The dragon reached out and brushed her cool wings with his and leaned their head out to nudge Starflight in the snout. Claws tapped along the wood floor and Starflight tipped his head in the dragons direction. Oh, what he would give for his sight back. Starflight was sitting in his hut, thinking about the long nights under the mountain when he spend the nights reading his scrolls, thirsting for more knowledge.
